FBI Director Advised Tape Your Webcams, Protect yourself from Hackers

The director of FBI (James Comey) on Wednesday say’s putting a piece of tape over his personal laptop’s webcam. The FBI just advised everyone to cover up your webcam and stop being spied on. If you left your webcam open means you’re offering hackers to watch everything what user’s doing.

Last Month, We found Mark Zuckerberg had covered his Macbook Pro webcam.

FBI Director James Comey who says that it is one of the “sensible things” that people can do. The most valuable things to hacker, getting access to webcam to spied on the targeted person. This could be used against the person to blackmail or could be used against him. James Comey Advised all government offices to cover up there webcams and normal people should be doing the same.

Web security company Hide My Ass! recently announced that it had started making special gadgets to sit over the top of people’s webcams, in case hackers broke in. Those little bits of plastic also feature a lens that means people can slot in an image and have it show to anyone who broke in. It exists for Laptops, Desktops and iPhone’s too.


According to FBI Director,

“You go into any government office and we all have the little camera things that sit on top of the screen. They all have a little lid that closes down on them. You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing,” Comey explained.


NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed in 2013 that the government had tools to access not just computer webcams, but also the cameras in iPhones and BlackBerries.
